I love
photographing weddings! They are all different. They are all the same. Each
is a challenge. And each is a reward. When I see the smile on the couples’
faces as they look through their pictures, I feel good inside. When I see
a tear, I know that I succeeded in capturing a very special moment that will
resonate with their kids and their grand kids. That’s what wedding photography
is about for me. I look for those special moments, that warm glance, that
wonderful expression in the eyes that tell volumes about the couples’
relationship. This is the challenge, the reward and what makes ever wedding
different.
One of the very important elements that leads to the creation of images that
show this relationship is the engagement session. The three of us working
together without anyone else around allows us to develop a working relationship
without the stress of other people or the wedding day itself. It allows us
to get to know each other much better than we ever could during the wedding.
An advantage of knowing each other before the wedding is that we will communicate
much better during the wedding. I will get a much better sense of how you
respond to posing, what poses you like and dislike and how much affection
you are willing to show in front of a camera. So, on the wedding day I know
how far I can go in pushing the envelope. You will see these pictures well
before your wedding. We will be able to critique them together to get the
best ideas for use on your wedding day. And you will get a sense of confidence
in my willingness to guide you, but still do it your way. I’ll make
suggestions, but you make the decisions. I think this is the way it should
be, after all, this is your heirloom for your family, not mine.
